The master psychic Genkai hosts a tournament in which the winner is granted apprenticeship under her. After being encouraged by Koenma to enter the tournament, Yusuke discovers that his rival, Kuwabara, is also there, in an attempt to discover more information about his spiritual abilities. Genkai eliminates a majority of the competition by only allowing those with strong spiritual energy to qualify. After various games and exercises, the participants must trek through a dangerous forest.
